Anvils

Anvils

An anvil is a metalworking tool made of a heavy block of metal, typically steel or iron, with a flat surface and a horn-shaped projection. Anvils have been used for thousands of years to shape and forge metal, and they are still commonly used in blacksmithing, metalworking, and metal fabrication.

The flat surface of the anvil is used as a support for metal being worked, such as when forging or shaping it with a hammer. The horn-shaped projection can be used for bending or curving metal, as well as for forming concave or convex shapes.

Anvils come in various sizes and shapes, with the most common being a traditional blacksmith's anvil that has a rectangular base and a rounded horn. Some modern anvils are designed with specialized features, such as multiple shapes and sizes of horns, cutting edges, or pritchels (small holes) for punching and starting screws.

Anvils are durable and long-lasting, making them a valuable tool for metalworkers, blacksmiths, and other professionals who work with metal.
